Sounds of Imani

There's a fresh sound of contemporary gospel in the air! Heaven-Wings Records presents Metro Detroit’s own Sounds of Imani bringing a unique blend of contemporary gospel & jazz, coupled with an upscale flavor of old-school R & B. The contemporary gospel recording artist has performed since 1996 and is a 2017 Texas Gospel Music Excellence Awards (TGMEA) award-winning artist at New Artist of the Year; 2017 Detroit Music Awards nominee; 2016 AMTC Summer Shine Graduate winning 2nd place Overall Singer Competition; 2015 Detroit Music Awards nominee; and a Season 4 Prayze Factor Award-winner in two categories: Urban Contemporary Gospel Duo/Group & Praise and Worship Duo/Group. The artist is also a recipient of the 2015 & 2013 Excellence in Christian Music Academy Awards(ECMA). Imani means faith and the duo lives up to their name. Sounds of Imani has completed a new project in the studio. The debut single entitled “Because of Who You Are” was released on October 21, 2016. The new single displays the duo’s soulful vocal harmony that will leave you wanting to hear more! Gerald & Carol Ervin, along with songwriter Daron Steward show true songwriting/producing skills that can truly be appreciated by music enthusiasts and fans alike. The single was produced by Michael J. Powell (Award-Winning Producer for Anita Baker), Gerald & Carol Ervin, & Executive Producer Heaven-Wings Records. "Because of Who You Are" is a soulful contemporary praise and worship selection that makes you appreciate the creative musicianship of this dynamic recording artist. In addition to their many talents Gerald & Carol tried their hand at acting and landed acting roles in April 2016; appearing in their first professional stage play by Michael Matthews entitled "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" sharing the stage with Reginald "Bruh-Man" Ballard from the tv show "Martin"; Karl Reid, actor and gospel recording artist of "Commissioned"; and Kene Holiday from the tv show "Matlock". Carol served in the role of Mother Taylor and Gerald appeared in his role as the Old Deacon. The couple are now part of the Prodigal Son Productions team. Gerald has a rich historical music background as former road manager and vocalist with the famous Detroit Emeralds. He also served as percussionist and vocalist in The Original Chapter Eight (before the arrival of Anita Baker). In addition, Gerald has served as vocalist in the Flaming Emeralds, background vocalist for The Floaters and various male choruses. Carol has served as keyboardist for the Voices of Wings in Flight Community Choir, and choir directress/musician for various churches. Both Gerald & Carol have made tremendous accomplishments: Carol has an Associate in Business Administration, Bachelors in Management, & Masters in Public Administration; Gerald has obtained a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in pursuance of a Social Work degree. Sounds of Imani has a true passion for music, serving their community, and enjoying the faces of people who love music. They have performed at various venues both locally and nationally (Houston Texas, Columbia South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Washington DC, New Jersey, California, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois & Canada); various shelters, correctional facilities, house concerts & coffee houses. Sounds of Imani has appeared on WHPR TV 33 Let’s Talk with Brenda Perryman, The Ortheia Barnes TV Show, & WDIV TV4. Their contemporary gospel music has been featured on various podcasts and radio broadcasts locally and abroad (UK, Africa).
